Leah just a few hours before whelping-are there really so many pups in there?

Day 1-just 4 so far

Day 1- 8 by now at just a few hours old

The rear ply wall has now been lifted by approx 6" high x 6" wide, which forms a safety "tunnel". Should a pup be accidentally pushed up to the wall, this would help, and allow the pup to slide back and provide an air pocket for it to breathe. Many breeders use "crush bars" or shelves to the outside of the box, but my own previous experience of these show they can cause more problems than ever; a pup laid with its neck over a crush bar can be laid on and end up with a broken neck.

I thought it was too good to be true; whilst all around us snow fell in the UK, West Yorkshire has enjoyed  beautiful, dry, cold, sunny weather for four days...until mid afternoon Friday, when the sky changed from deep blue to dark grey and suddenly dropped 3 inches of white stuff on us in a couple of hours. However, the dogs adore it and even the pups weren't put off venturing outside and enjoying it. Here are this afternoon's snow patrol pics>

If you encounter problems playing this back by double clicking, then I found the best way is to- right click, "save target as", and save it somewhere on your hard drive. Then you can go into it from windows explorer, and right click, "open with", (choose your player) works well. REAL PLAYER worked for me better than WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, which tends to stop part way though. Total play length is about 30 seconds. Good luck.

Lady Leah and Andy appeared on BBC Radio Leeds this afternoon, and did a 25 minute slot on the Bob Walmsley show. Bob asked about the history of the TM, and about how Andy became involved in the breed, and about Leah's show wins, and ended by wishing us good luck at Crufts on Thursday.

Although Andy did most of the talking on air, Leah (who went to sleep in the studio) was the real star of the show, and attracted a great deal of attention, strokes and hugs.
